Common Questions and Concerns

Is my tap water safe to drink?Yes! Your water meets all state and federal drinking water standards. These standards were set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Department of Health Services to ensure safe drinking water. Your drinking water contains no herbicides, pesticides, industrial solvents or bacterial pathogens. What happens if the water supply becomes contaminated? If, at any time, the water supply fails to meet the strict water quality standards mandated by the government, the Water District must notify you, the consumer, of the failure. Offensive TasteIf you recently moved from an area where the water contained very few naturally occurring minerals, your new water may taste different due to the minerals it contains. Just as various brands of bottled water taste different due to the varying levels of different minerals they contain, so the taste of domestic drinking water varies with its source. It could be that you’re simply not used to the new taste yet. Offensive odorFirst, perform the “glass test”. To do this, perform the following steps: 1. Turn on the water and let it run for thirty seconds; 2. Rinse a glass twice and fill it with water; 3. Turn off the water and take the glass to another room; 4. Smell the water in the glass and describe the odor. If the water in the glass does not smell, the odor is probably caused by bacteria living in the “P” trap (the “U” shaped pipe) under your drain. Other smells may be caused by home treatment systems. Check the filter to see if it needs to be serviced or changed. |
